This software appliance allows you to share USB drives over the network.
USB Network Gate lets you easily connect one or more remote USB devices to your computer over Ethernet (Internet/LAN/WAN). The device will appear as if it is connected locally. As long as the remote machine physically hosting the device is connected to you through a network, it will be accessible whether in another country or in the next cubicle. This remote device could be a scanner, printer, webcam, modem, USB dongle or anything else that connects through the USB port. This software is available in three versions to work on Windows, Mac and Linux. This has a simple and easy to use interface. It is intuitive enough that most users should get familiar with it quite easily. Getting productive with it should not take much time. It implements network traffic compression and improved sharing mechanism.
USB Network easily connects one or more remote USB devices. The licensing is based on the number of USB devices to be shared not on number of computers sharing it. The software actually intercepts USB port activity of a shared USB device and redirects it via TCP/IP network, creating the sharing opportunity. All you have to do is to just plug the device in and it will automatically appear on the remote side of the connection. You can add a password to control remote user access. It is possible to use this tool on virtual machines too. Install USB Network Gate on a guest operating system of the virtual machine/blade server and access your USB peripherals from a remote virtual desktop. This is a very good product. If you are looking for a similar solution, you should try it in your exact workflow.
